Four Children and a Stopwatch: What Counts as Research in ABA

The experiment involved four children — one ten-year-old, one twelve-year-old, and a pair of five-year-old twins. All had “developmental disabilities”. They were asked to attach laminated shapes or rhyming-word pictures to Velcro folders. For correct responses, they were rewarded with either small food items or thirty-second cartoon clips.

This, according to the author, was a study on “motivation.”

And this, according to the field of behavior analysis, is science.
